how EXACTLY do you store garlic
I know that there are so many different ways, and I am curious how everyone else is doing itMine turned out to all be hard necks even though I got them in a variety of places.
I ended up with 102 garlic.
There seems to be some difference in opinion about whether or not to leave them in the sun From the reading I have done I have left mine outside, but in the shade.
After about 5 days or so, I have cut them off at about 6 inches, sort of cleaned them off a bit and then put them into a place where they get lots of air.
This metal thing we bought at a garage sale and I figured it would be extremely useful for ....something and it took until now to find a use for it.
I am going to leave them in a shady place for another week and then put them in my cold room
which is a proper cold room with the ventilation pipes, but it is 60 degrees right now, which sounds a bit warm for storing garlic.
But it will be cooler when the weather is cooler (the weather we are having is very uncharacteristically warm)
So what does everyone else do, I would love to see others pictures of where they dry their garlic.

Nice haul GWN. I like the drying set up! After they cure for several weeks in the dry shade, go through and pick out the largest ones you are going to keep for seed then set those aside elsewhere. The roots and hardnecks, when dried well, can be trimmed, then you could store them in a net type bag in a cooler (50-60+) dry area. Hopefully you will not have to buy garlic for a whole year.
Well, at least that's what I would do.

Re: how EXACTLY do you store garlic
Hope mine make it. I left them to dry in the garage until it got so hot. Then I cut off the roots and necks and put into a net bag in the same cabinet I keep the onions and potatos in. However, I left the house a/c at 85* while I'm gone.

thats the plan, not sure if 100 is going to do it, but plan for more for next year.Hopefully you will not have to buy garlic for a whole year.
Kay Turan had a great recipe that she chopped the garlic and then placed on cookie sheet to cookHowever, I left the house a/c at 85* while I'm gone.
then freeze them.....Seems to me she cooked them too....

Too late now. I'm gone until mid Sep. If nothing else maybe they'll survive enough to use as seed in the fall garden.

once the cloves begin to age and dry out, I peel the cloves and chop in the food processor, adding a good quantity of olive oil. I then put in a bottle, make sure everything is covered with the oil and store in the fridge. As a bonus, the garlic is ready to use and also you can use just the oil.

Please be careful with how long you keep that garlic in oil.
We had a case in a restaurant chain here in British Columbia about 20 years ago where there were several deaths from botulism poisoning.
It was garlic mixed with oil that had been left too long.
Here is an article on the subject. garlic oil botulism
Sounds like you just need to be careful with dates....

GWN, typically if the garlic oil has botulism, when you open the jar, it will spew like a volcano. But you are right, it is necessary to be careful with this. Thanks for the reminder.
