While clearing off 4 squares, adding compost, I noticed there were no worms to be found. Decided to clean out the nearby worm tube, thinking maybe this was a waste of time. It was packed pretty hard inside the tube finally got it to break up. Inside was probably 150 worms, maybe more. I didn't get all of them. The tube was 6 inch diameter by 18 inches deep filled mostly w/manure and some scraps. I guess if the worms want to hang out primarily in the tube it is Great to know there is free worm compost to use directly or stretch it out and make tea.
thankyou Josh

Thanks! Right now it's cooled way down sort of Shocked to 89 degrees with a heat index of 94. Have you "cooled off" a bit too? Because the rediculous duration of that 99 degree stuff with 106 index was nuts. Our poor pumpkins! I'm trying to be motivated and water them more than once a day, but don't always do it.. Embarassed

It's not cooled off here yet but suppose to, it was 111 yesterday and 99 today. My pumpkin leaves wilts two or three times a day, I went out and got a soaked hose, that didn't work, I have to overhead water it for the leaves to stand back up, but overall it is doing good, staying green.

Llama Momma -- My spaghetti squash is doing the same. We usually have your weather about one day later, so it's still hot here although last night it was a little cooler overnight. I have been watering twice a day, although the garden was neglected on the 2nd and the 3rd when I had company. I put some pics under the thread "I've Made Progress -- 1st Year"

The temps are killers. So sorry you're not cooling off yet.
You know where the bottom of the leaves dig in and make those brand new white roots? I read we should make sure those are getting well watered and fed too. I'm learning so much since it's all new to me. My inner mother hen decided to shade the end of the vines, kind of babying the new growth and maybe prevent the sun from frying it too much. I got 6 females, number 7 self aborted. Only one mature enough to be pollinated so far.

Memart - best wishes on those blueberries, they have so much personal significance for you. Apparently squash tends to wilt, but it really makes me nervous. I'm off to take a look at your photos. Very Happy

great to hear your worms are doing fine in their tube LLM!

as far as the wilting leaves on squash and pumpkins.....i just watched a video last night from....praxxus on u tube...and he said that the leaves are made up of a lot of water so its normal for them to kinda of wilt in the heat....doesnt mean that they are not getting enough water below.....as long as they perk back up when it cools off during the day then they should be fine.....its a good video about the heat...
