Hello!
New to the site, but have been gardening for a while, still learning. I live on the Gulf Coast of TX and I'm looking to plant a fall garden, how long will tomatoes and peppers grow down here. I've only tried greens and turnips in the fall but would like more variety. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Do you used the Squarefoot gardening method as outlined in the book ALL NEW SQUAREFOOT GARDENING. That book is the how to manual for most members of this forum.

Tomatos and peppers will grow until the first frost. Add squash, eggplant and okra to that list. Do you know your average first frost date?

Welcome to the forum. I second the suggestion to pick up a copy of the All New SFG book. It's an easy read and a great reference.

I have the book, just haven't read it all yet.

First frost for us just depends, we've had it as early as mid Nov or as late as Jan. Typically our winters are mild, although we have a cold one every once in a while.

I'm just going to grow what ever I can for as long as I can. Smile

You go for it. We have a saying on the forum. "it's just seeds"

I did that last year and lucked out with the mild winter. This year, who knows?

Welcome! I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast. We harvested tomatoes up until Christmas last year. Our first frost date is in November. However, I do cover my garden on nights when the temps are expected to drop below 38° and place lights under the cover to warm them up. (It takes just one miss on the predictions to burn the crops.)

I am currently making a list of what to for Fall. So far, I will plant Broccoli, Carrots, Tomatoes. I still looking for a few more items to plant and hopefully others will chime in on what they have planted or will plant for the Fall.
