Where my first SFG is now.
So I found lumber really cheap at home depot. Since I have a friend who desperately loves gardening and has very little money, I gave her my pallet boxes. She was delighted so it made me all warm and fuzzy. I found a whole bunch of "cull" lumber at home depot for $1 per 4 foot board, so I bought about 35. I had all the deck screws already from a project. I made: four 4x4's, one 4x1, one 4x2, one 5x2 and six 1x1's. I may have done some serious overkill, but what I don't use or can I can give away. And after looking at what I usually plant and how much more efficient this is, I can't wait to see it grow! I also found my compost cheap at walmart, go figure. I got steer, mushroom, humus, bark and an organic compost mix from forest and bark. Cost me $10 per batch. Peat I found for $10 at Cal Ranch Store for 3.8 sq ft., and Verm I found at a nursery for $30/4sq ft. Figure I didn't do so bad. That's $50 for a batch that fills two 4x4's, so about $3 per square foot. I did three batches. I have been waiting for the weather to stop blowing, we finally got a beautiful day, so hubby and I got all the dirt in, grids laid and now just have to plant. I am so excited! I will post pictures as soon as the link works.

This is my garden with my boxes in place and filled. The top picture is a close up of the corner. In the second picture the space behind the second box in front is full of bearded iris. White stuff is feed sacks to keep the morning glory down and to act as my weed paper. The 1x1's I plan on using for my zucchini and squash in addition to maybe putting a few in the corners.

You have a very impressive garden and you're obviously very resourceful! Please post pictures as your garden grows.

Wow! You've been busy! That'll be very impressive when it's all growing. I love the idea of using feed sacks for a weed barrier.
