Corn question

Post  greatgranny on 6/8/2012, 2:38 pm

I planted corn - 4 per square. I did plant 2 seed in each hole - the old adage "one for the crow". Anyway, they have all survived. Should I cut out the weakest of the 2 or should I leave it alone?

I planted two Golden Bantam (smaller corn) per square (diagonally) but with our rain, I didn't get any germination until today, 12 days after sowing. I think some may have rotted from all the rain.

The larger corn, Double Standard, sown in my community garden rows, haven't popped up at all yet. I planted those 11-12" apart. in 3 rows 12" apart.

Thanks. I just finished taking out the weakest. Also praying for rain. Watering if none shows up by suppertime. What a strange year. It either rains 9 inches in 4 days or refuses to rain for a week or more.

Corn sometimes takes longer than we think. It may still sprout.

I was going to replant mine because it had been over two weeks so I decided to dig around a little first and found a sprout that hadn't made it above ground yet Very Happy So I left it alone and it sprouted a few days later, kinda glad now becasue it was small enough the hail didn't bother it!
