Hi all,

This is my second season planting a SFG. My first was 2010 which was overwhelmingly successful. I lost last year as our house was being renovated. This year I was so excited to get back to it that I planted my entire box with a combination of seeds and transplants ... and realized a week later I didn't write anything down. So I have no idea (other than the transplants) what's growing where.

I can't tell if what's growing is a weed or a seedling, if I should be patient or concerned, or if I should protect from sun or not. I'll be more careful with my fall planting.

Just thought I'd share, hopefully it'll make some of you chuckle at my silliness.

Hi:

I'd just wait and let things grow a bit longer - I find most seedlings look too much alike when they are quite young but become more distinguishable by the time they get their true leaves. Look for patterns - such as similiar looking seedlings appearing in recuring patterns (the spacing you used to sow the seeds). Compare seedlings to weeds growing in other parts of your yard. the fact that you did not garden in these beds last year may be to your benefit now - there should be less volunteer plants poping up to throw off your guessing game:lol:

Thanks, that's good advice. Hoping I can start recognizing things soon, so the weeds can't take hold or worse, I don't start pulling out actual seedlings.

Misery loves company.....and it can be really comforting to know that there are lots of smart people, and experienced gardeners, and smart, experienced gardeners, out there that make Lots of enthusiasm, not so much sense ... 926169 mistakes, too.

I'm having a terrible time this year with carrots and their weed imposter queen anne's lace. They look identical so I haven't a clue what is growing in 8 squares of carrots. Darn It.
