Worm found on my Swiss Chard

Post  nelstango on 5/17/2012, 10:53 am

Can anyone identify this lil' bugger? He was on my swiss chard this morning! I thought at first a cabbage worm, but he looks more brown that the pics that I'm seeing online.

Oh, and how would I treat my plants?
Thanks!

Not sure what he is, but I bet BT would kill him.

What is BT? A mix we make or something we buy? Should I keep some handy?

It looks like an army worm and BT will kill it. Here's pictures of army worms so you can identify it.

You can find the liquid version of BT sold in most places named "Thuricide". It is concidered organic and is safe for the 'good critters'. It can be used up to the day before harvest. It stops the digestive system of most all catepillar critters. It does NOT KILL on contact just stops the bugs from eating they and all the eggs take one bite and that is that.
