What is wrong with my corn?

What is wrong with my corn?
Well, here I am again. My corn, silver queen, should be at least 6 ft tall, before it starts tasseling. Did great in SFG last yr.
It's tasseling and most is only 2.5 to 3 ft. tall. All I have put in the beds is some more compost, no fertilizer. Do any of you know what the problem is?
The onions are as tall as the corn. Are the onions to blame?

Well, I see one of two things here . . . either you have stunted corn or giant onions!
Seriously, though, this seems to need the answer from someone who has grown corn before. I'm trying it this year for the first time and mine is about three feet tall after about a month in the ground. No tassels yet.

The onions are getting tall, but is not bulbing, will overtake the corn soon!

Re: What is wrong with my corn?
My companion list makes no mention of corn/onion incompatability.
If its just one plant maybe a quirk of nature, defective seed?
Strange. Last year when I grew peaches and cream I had a stalk or two out of 64 that were stunted yet grew silks, but I thought it was from replanting where no seed came up. They ended up with too much shade from the older mature stalks, that was my guess anyway..

Re: What is wrong with my corn?
It is all the corn in 2 beds next to each other, oh well. I have some heirloom corn that is time to plant, but, I am hesitant, for something may be wrong, too much or not enough of something?

I am going to take a stab at this but if your onions are forming bulbs that may mean you need more phosphorus and maybe more nitrogen for the corn?

That's a shame. The coloring looks a beautiful healthy green too.
Maybe give your local cooperative extension service a call or look up their fact sheets online for some hints.

Don't worry about the corn, each variety is a little different. My corn this year started to tassel at about 2 1/2 feet tall but has grown to over 6 feet tall and is doing fine.

I googled Stunted corn with Silks. There was a lot to choose from - here is one person's reply you might be interested:

The problem is that there is no even sign of an ear forming. If it would grow, I would eat it. Jo
