What are these eggs?

What are these eggs?
I was inspecting the garden this AM, redirecting the cantalope to the fence, and found these eggs on the bottom of a leaf.
Anyone know what they are? What should I do about them? I don't see any live bugs.
Thanks, Jo

Squash Bugs!
Delete them immediately. This is not the time for scientific observation.

I like it even less if the squash bugs get established, they just set up generational house keeping in the garden and that means no fruits and nastiness in general.

Re: What are these eggs?
I didn't have squash bugs last yr. so will have to figure out what to do. My cantalope is on the fence side of box, with the zucchini on inside, where it can hang over box edge. Would it be good to use a organic spray, before too much growing/blooming takes place?

Re: What are these eggs?
Jo, did you click on the link I posted? there is a lot of info on the web and some in old threads on the forum. When I find the eggs like in the photo posted, I just use my thumb and squish the eggs. If I scraped them off they may remain viable and that would be no good. Believe me when I say it is MUCH easier to take care of a problem like this when first noticed. If one waits, even a day or two, the critters may hatch and then they have legs to get away and hide form the gardener.
If you dont want to touch them, wear gloves.

Re: What are these eggs?
I inspected most of the garden and found no more eggs. The leaf was cut off and took to porch for pic, then eggs squished and leaf in trash. I did look at link, have seen no adults but was not looking for them. I guess the non-existant winter is going to be bad for spring and summer! And my cantalope looks so good! I've not planted the summer squash yet, which they really like. I will look at the past posts to see if I can do something to stop them.
Thanks a lot, Jo

Gardening is war! So it depends just whose army those young troops belong to, you might be killing a friend. But I can see why you might want to shoot first and ask questions later.
I have had good luck with enlisting some of natures beneficial as my minions in my bio-warfare as opposed to too much (if any if I can help it) chemical warfare. Getting lady bugs established was really a boon for me here. They have returned year after year as well as parasitic wasp (these critters are indigenous I just supplemented their numbers a bit a bit).
edit - I missed where they were already identified! Good call on the termination!.

I use zero chemicals in the garden, and plant flowers that attract beneficial insects and also some trap crops too. About the only bug I take care of personally are caterpillars, and that's only because they can devastate a plant quickly(annuals I don't mind so much, but my grape vines were hit hard this year).
