Re: Garden sink that hooks up to your garden hose
This thread reminded me of something I bought in 2002 and was put in storage when I was tranferred overseas the last time. Had to dig in the garage to find the box, which was opened but never used.
I remember I tried to give it to my son a few years ago, but he wasn't ready to deal with it. Guess what, he just lost out.
Kay
FYI, I checked. The company went out of business in 2003.

They sell sinks like that in outdoor stores like Cabela's. I always thought it would be fun just to have one.

Walshevak, I'd love to see photos of that thing set up! I'm sure there are other manufacturers of similar products, so now I'm going to look for one.
Our kitchen sink, when we replace it in renovating the kitchen, is not appropriate for using outdoors. It has three sinks, two large on the outside, one middle sink that's shallow and intended for a garbage disposal...which never gets used since we compost stuff that would go in it.

Food for thought: a lot of people replace their garbage disposal when they replace their sink. If you put your old garbage disposal on your outdoor sink, you would shorten your compost time by chopping up your veggie scraps into small pieces. I've been waiting for a while for a used disposal to fall into my lap.

What kind of fittings do you need to attach the garden hose to the sink faucet?

Too many variables on the sink connections to say. They could be 1/2 inch IPS or 3/8 compression or... on and on. Take the faucet to the store. It's not a hard thing to do when you're standing in front of shelves worth of parts.

I like that! Lego experience is good. Taking the faucet to the store is even better; the plumbing experts will set you up in no time.

@doneal - your sink is beautiful! Thanks for all the instructions.
Boffer, wouldn't a disposal mean you have to have electricity, too? High powered line?
Your setup is lovely.

Re: Garden sink that hooks up to your garden hose
Our disposal is actually just plugged in to an outlet under the sink; we could run a power cord out there when we want to use it, then unplug it when we don't want it. The spot I have marked out for this sink (if we can raise enough to renovate the kitchen any time soon) is probably less than 20' away from our power source, and I have a 50' heavy-duty outdoor cord we can use (we use it for plugging in the drill & such outside).

Re: Garden sink that hooks up to your garden hose
Thanks everyone, yes the garden sink is very handy. It was easy to build and I already had all the parts except the plumbing fittings. I have an old kitchen spray nozzle somewhere just don’t know where I put it. I want to put it on as well as some wheels. It’s really not that heavy but it would be easier to move around. It does double as a potting bench. I think any used kitchen sink would work but the single bowl is really all you need. A disposal would work but you would want to make sure it had a good ground and only plug the ext. cord into a GFI breaker.
