Black Hen Manure
Just finished 3 new raised beds with SFG reciipe. In a bed from last year, I added a bag of Black Hen. Contents of bag was wet and lumpy. It has an extremely strong odor and very hard to mix into old mix. Also there was a brown sticky coating on outside of bag like it was leaking. Is it safe for use?

yes. It is safe to use. Did you already mix it in? If not pour it out of the bag into your box, just let it dry out on top of last years MM and then mix it in. The odor will diminish in a few days.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to chop up the lump and cover with last years mix. Then I sprinkled vermiculate over it. Probably have a tough shoveling job ahead. The smell really freaked me out. Since I was raised on farm and used this before...I thought it should not have smelled so strong. The dry bags had a mild odor. Thank you for the assistance.
