Who is this and what do I do with him?
I was examining my garden this morning and after I got over my excitement at finding TEENY flower buds on my cherry tomato I found this guy:
Sorry it's sideways, I haven't figured out why my computer insists on putting my photos that way when they're clearly upright on my phone. ANYWAY, I don't know if I should be squashing him or letting him be. He looks like he's related to a grasshopper or whatever, which inclines me to bring out the axe & hood.

LOL, cameras & phones will often compensate for the way you took the photo, and display it the way you can see the most of it. My camera is landscape. When I take something portrait (so I turn the camera 90*) it displays it 'skinny' in landscape again.
When I move it to my computer, I then rotate it with the viewer, and it stays in portrait mode on the computer.
ANYWHO...is it acrane fly? I can't see enough of it to tell. Crane flies are harmless. The look like big mosquitos, and are one of the first bugs of spring. I often find them hanging out on the side of a rose blossom.
Nope.
I saved the photo and zoomed in...the youngins say it could be a cricket. Antenae are too short for a grasshopper.

Yeah, if it was a cranefly I would've known it. So, he has this funky looking sucker mouth on it...do I get rid of him or leave him be?

Hummmmm, looks similar to a type of cricket I have found indoors, but can't remember the name. Call me cruel and heartless, but I'd stomp it. It's a cold cruel world.

It's called Natural Selection, Grandpop...if he's stupid enough to try to feast on my plants, he doesn't survive!
