I would play farmville except there is no natural disaster that I could send out. My fake storm can wipe out your fake farm.

I've avoided Farmville and most all the applications on FB.... seems that my sisters and other friends spend an AWFUL LOT of time on it. Does Farmville use 'square foot' principles?

(Still not a farmville farmer- or a zooville zookeeper - or any of that stuff!)

I was showing my SFG to my friend... he noticed the signs marking some of the items I had planted and said, "Wow! You've Mastered Beans and Raddishes already?" Very Happy

I used to play farmville - I was hooked - but it started causing problems on my computer, was tooooo slow, and took up way too much of my time. So - I broke the addiction and haven't played it for at least 4 months now. I've blocked all applications.

I'm a FarmTown addict. I wish they'd use it as a learning tool so you'd know weather patterns for when each crop should be planted and seed depth and fertilizer intervals and what not. If they taught us some stuff along the way I'd be able to have reason for my addiction. farmville? Icon_twisted

I used to be addicted to FarmTown too until I got on Farmville - then I was able to break the addiction from FarmTown. I find it best to just stay away from them all. Facebook and SFG forum are enough for me. (Too much actually) Smile

LOL Started on Farm Town. Got to a million and a half. Didn't want to buy anything else. Then to Farm Ville. Ok for a while, but computer application is too slow to load. Now I just Petville. I like my little pet looking at me and smiling all the time! Kinda like playing dolls. Doesn't take any brain cells to play Petville. farmville? Icon_cat Nice way to unwind after work.

Farmville is why I found SFG farmville? Icon_redface

Im a city girl....born and raised in metro area. Never even CONCIEVED of having a garden.

Got sucked into farmville after we moved 1300 miles and everything went wrong and I went through a deep depression.

We were in the country now and I inately knew that farmville wasnt going to be a healthy addiction...so I decided I liked it on the computer so much maybe I could have a garden. Country folks do that right....a trip to barnes and noble and a stroke of luck that I touched Mel's book...and here I am.

and yes...I still play but...WAYYYYYYY less. 'cause I would MUCH rather be in my REAL garden. Even if I have nothing to do I just like sitting in my SFG. Its been amazing seeing things come up out of the soil from this little seed...absolutely miraculous. I get giddy and excited like a little child. And my husband is really enjoying seeing me happy again I think. He keeps finding reasons for me to go out there. ANd yesterday we started plans for a inside greenhouse for this winter...lol. So yes I come from a long line of addicts...but SFG is at least trading one addiction for the other that I can live with. Smile

Middlemamma, I'm so glad you're doing better! I know how aweful it is to be in a deep depression! There is certainly no condemnation to anyone doing Farmville or Farmtown or any other game. I just don't have the time. And I'm soooo glad it lead you to having a real garden!!! I know what you mean about the giddiness you feel when seeing your garden grow and just like being around it. Me too!

I know how that depression circle is and how vicious it can be. I am glad you are better. We moved here 2 years ago. We had been out in the country for 23 years. We loved it. Due to circumstances we moved. New jobs, no friends etc. My SFG helped me to get back outside again. Maybe fresh air sunshine and knowing that little plants need you to be their mama helps break that circle.

Yes this is certainly the best "medicine" I have ever had for it. I'm hugely afraid of pills so often in my life I have been told I need to be medicated...and I just can't take pills. It is a vicious cycle...I'm 33 and have been struggling with this since I was 8. I fight hard. But sometimes I just get tired and it gets the best of me. I wanted this move more than anything in the world...and I am still so glad we made it...I just never realized what a network you build of support after 15 years in a place. Moving to a place where I knew not a soul....was a very eye opening experience. I won't ever take my network for granted again. Smile

I am glad I am better too... Smile Here's to Mel Bartholomew being a great shrink and not even knowing it!! Thanks for the kind thoughts my fellow SFGer's. farmville? Herz

+1 I have been deeply depressed for the lasy 20 months and SFG is the first thing to bring me joy since this started. I could not manage 12 hours of sleep a day now b/c I would HAVE to run out and look at my garden. Mel is a doctor and he just thought he was an engineer! Even with the start up costs, it is still cheaper than my antidepressants, and more effective. Bye, bye pills (actually threw them out before starting SFG), hello fresh tomatoes.

I don't play farmville, however SFG has helped me find a happiness and purpose as well. I was very depressed last year, and have always been a more serious person, prone to depression. I have resisted medication for probably 15 or more years. Well, I finally agreed that I needed some help. I'm 40 years old, will be 41 this year, and perimenopause is doing a major number on my mind/emotions, and the medication I'm on is known to greatly help with severe PMS symptoms, which mine were becoming worse and worse. When you have one, maybe two good weeks a month, if that, something's got to happen. Well, I have to say, after several months of the meds working their "magic", each day is a happy day. I feel calm, peaceful, purposeful, able to cope much, much better. I know that having the garden, and being in control of my yard, house, family, self, is a HUGE factor. BUT, after watching a PBS series called "This Emotional Life" I also learned that anti depressants have been shown to actually grow new brain cells....pretty cool, eh? Anyway, I'm not advocating drugs, as it's not something I take lightly, and I HATE popping pills, but it has done more for me than I ever imagined. I struggled with feeling too weak, and all my pride and other reasons for not taking the drugs, but, if you feel at a point of total helplessness, they have totally changed my life, and I would support anyone in the decision to try meds.

Facebook and Facebook games are very addictive. The only game I play(ed) is Yoville but I'm a little burned out on playing it. Like someone else said, I'd much rather garden in real life than online.
