Chat Room Is Open

I am disconected!
I know nothing about 'chat' , but since it's been noted that it is 'ready', I've gone there to look several times, no one is there, and I'm disconected. I don't know what I'd say, even if I knew how?
Could someone in the know, give 'chat for dummies' a go?

Hey james, I merged your topic with the chat room topic you started yesterday.
Enjoy that cup-o-joe

Bump! Kids are playing quietly and I have some spare time. I'll hang out in the chat room for a few minutes and see if anyone shows up!

Bump
it's kind of slow this time of year, but there is a chat room available for those that would like to use it to chat with other SFgardeners.

To the upper right of the chat box there's a link to "Login". After that, its pretty self-explanatory.

Re: Chat Room Is Open
I was in the Chat Room once because someone mentioned that they were going in and would like to chat. Ended up with four or five of us chatting. Very nice. I would like to do it again on a more regular basis. I think all one has to do is to say that you are going in to the Chat room, go in, and hope that someone will join you. If you do that, don't give up, just post, go in and wait a while and see what happens, or announce a time that you will be there.
e.g. Kelejan is going into the chat room at 8:00am EST.
I was on a Forum where we would meet in the chat room at a regulat time, it was 11am EST on a Sunday, and people would drop in and out for several hours. Once it lasted for five hours as there was so much going on.
KELEJAN IS GOING INTO THE CHAT ROOM AT 8:00AM EST.
Re: Chat Room Is Open
Well, folks, I am still in the Chat room. Llamamomma dropped in and we had a nice chat for 15 minutes.
I will be here until 9:00am EST.

Re: Chat Room Is Open
Anybody want to chat in real time? I'm going to hang out in the chat room until my brother-in-law gets out of the house so I can do my workout (I don't feel comfortable jumping around to my Jillian Micahels DVD's with him around).
Re: Chat Room Is Open
I am going over right now and hope you are still there. Just visualizing you jumping around.
If anyone else wants to jump in, I will be around for about an hour until I have to go out. If you log on, be patient, I will check my computer every ten minuts or so.

Re: Chat Room Is Open
Hi Meatburner, I missed you by about three minutes. Left some messages on Chat for you but you did not return.
We had three people on chat, four if you count Meatburner.
Next Sunday a couple of us have committed to be on chat for an hour at 4pm PST. Look forward to chatting with you. Everyone welcome. I know the time is not convenient for many around the world, but perhaps we can work out something for you at a different time.

Re: Chat Room Is Open
Not sure how I figure out the time difference, anyone got a quick way to do it?
I guess I could add clocks for the various cities in my iPad but I would still have to do the maths on the time difference and then work out what time 4pm PST is here, maybe there's an easier way...

Re: Chat Room Is Open
There is roughly a 12 hours difference. When you posted above, it was almost 3 am in the US.

Re: Chat Room Is Open
Hi ericam, looks like there is actually a 19 hour difference between you and me. So here in the Portland, Oregon area, when we start the chat on Sunday January 6th at 4 pm in the afternoon, it will be 11 am Monday morning January 7th where you are in Sydney, Australia.
Here is a Time Difference Calculator that does the conversions for you!

Re: Chat Room Is Open
Your cell phone might have the info. On mine you go to Tools, then World Clock.
Btw, there is a 15 hour difference between Sydney and Ohio, we're on Eastern standard time like the east coast. You are 15 hours ahead of me. I deal with this all the time having a son in Tokyo, Japan.

Thanks for that link Gwennifer, that's fantastic, it even takes daylight savings into account! So much simpler than trying to calculate the difference and go forwards or backwards from there.
Llama momma, the problem with adding the clocks is that it only gives you current time, you would still need to calculate the difference and then work out the time shift. That kind of maths does my head in, I always go the wrong way!
So 11am Monday my time, I might be able to join in, I'll try and remember!
