Re: Strawberry Box
So simple it's brilliant! Great design.
I may "borrow" your idea next year. I'd start out with bottom section - planting only in the corners and potatoes right in the middle. Once the potatoes sprouted, I'd add the second level and plant a different crop in the corners. Once the potatoes cleared that level, I'd add the third. Hmmm... my mind is buzzing with the possibilities. :drunken:

Re: Strawberry Box
I can't remember the dimensions of the middle and top sections exactly, but if I remember correctly they're 43" and 30"... ish. I had them calculated at 42.5" and 30" in my plans, but I cut them just a tidge longer to make sure I didn't have any slippage and the other levels falling down into the lower levels.
Once I get my weed barrier down and my mix in, I'll take some small screws and tap them into the level underneath it. Probably not necessary for most people, but I have a Great Dane that loves to zoom around the yard when we go outside... one crash of hers into the box would spell disaster.

... wheels turning...
I definitely want to use this type of pyramid for strawberries... and then I thought it would be wonderful for an herb bed, as well!
Just starting with my first boxes, though, so this will probably be a 'next year' project.

Re: Strawberry Box
Got the "plans" scanned in and loaded up. Keep in mind these were sketched with just me in mind, so I apologize if some of it doesn't make sense. Also, I cut the middle and top tiers a little longer than the plan indicates (probably a 1/2") to make sure they wouldn't fall in.
The little dots are where I plan to put the plants.

Re: Strawberry Box
We finished making the strawberry boxes and we planted them. That is my 4 year old son Quenton who helped plant 50 plants. I hope they will grow and we will have strawberries in June!

Nay, thats just an old software program I've had for a few years, Microsoft Picture It! Vers 7.0...
My Job (Emergency Service/Public Safety Communications) consists of: Answering the Phone, Talking on the Radio, Surfing the Internet, (When I can sneak it...) and watching TV for 12 hour shifts...
It's an old photo program I've had for years and I'm surprised that it works with the Vista OS...

Pyramid Planter In Your Photo
Theresa,
What kind of planter is that in the background of your photo that is shaped like a pyramid? Did your husband make that one also? What is planted in it? It looks great in your garden!

Re: Strawberry Box
Yes my husband did make the pyramid shaped planter, it has strawberry plants in it. He build it new this year and I didn't know how it would do for the strawberries, but they are doing excellent in it. There are 80 plants planted in it, plus 48 more planted in the SFG around it.
Here is what it looks like now, a view of all 4 sides.
Looks like were going to have some strawberries this year!

Okay now I have to figure out how to build one of these for this year's garden. I will put the strawberries in the bottom and herbs in the rest.
Big thanks for sharing.
